The School of Hospitality and Tourism is a passionate and dedicated team of professionals committed to delivering on SAIT’s promise of applied education and student success. The School of Hospitality and Tourism offers diploma programs in Hospitality Management, Professional Cooking, Baking and Pastry Arts and Travel and Tourism. The School’s mission is “Excellence in everything we do.” and in this regard it is currently recruiting for an instructor in The Highwood who will contribute to the goals of the Highwood, and School of Hospitality and Tourism team, to ensure that our students receive exemplary training and education in a full service dining room environment.

 

We are currently recruiting an Instructor for The Highwood. In this role, you will contribute to the goals of The Highwood, as well as the School of Hospitality and Tourism team, to ensure that our students receive exemplary training and education in a full service dining room environment. We are currently recruiting for a temporary full time benefits eligible position ending

December 31, 2018.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Preparing and presenting lectures in the areas of food service, customer service, wine knowledge, bar knowledge and table service
  • Coaching students in exemplary customer service, menu knowledge, dining room etiquette, room set-up, wine service and bar mixology
  • Developing course outlines and curriculum
  • Evaluating student progress and facilitating student achievement
  • Preparing additional study materials for learners
  • Developing and updating wine and cocktail lists
  • Providing ongoing support, guidance and advice to learners
  • Participating in curriculum and program reviews
  • Participating in strategy sessions to continue to develop the presence of the Highwood to the SAIT community and the public 
  • Liaising with relevant industry sectors and individuals to continue to enhance the curriculum, and the success of the Highwood as a premier dining operation

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of managerial experience in a premier dining establishment combined with a relevant degree or diploma
  • Previous teaching experience an asset
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Strong industry participation
  • Ability to function in a team environment
  • Sommelier knowledge at WSET level 2 is an asset, as is entrepreneurial experience and knowledge of the post-secondary environment

Vacation for Instructors

Looking for a work-life balance?  Instructors at SAIT earn 43 days of paid vacation per year (approximately 8 weeks per year).  In addition, employees at SAIT also receive paid time off during the break between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
