The School of Manufacturing and Automation provides practical and applied skills training to meet the needs of Alberta's rapidly growing manufacturing, automation, oil and gas, and service sectors. We are learner-centered and committed to delivering quality curriculum in support of student success. 

 

We are currently recruiting a WET Instructor for our Welding Engineering Technology program. The focus for this position will be on technology and laboratory training, including some of the following courses: Welding Inspection, Welding Design and Processes, Robotic and Automated Manufacturing, and Failure Mitigation.

Responsibilities: 

  • Instruct high level technology courses to mature learners.
  • Develop course outlines, profiles, and curriculum.
  • Participate in curriculum and program reviews.
  • Prepare additional study and lab materials for learners.
  • Evaluate student progress and achievement.
  • Provide ongoing support, guidance and advice to learners.
  • Maintain close contact with relevant industry sectors.
  • Perform related duties as assigned to meet the emerging needs of SAIT and its students.

 

Qualifications:

  • Must be a Welding Engineering Technology graduate.
  • Alberta Journeyman Certificate in Welding or Red Seal equivalent is also required.
  • Relevant industry certification is an asset: e.g. API 510 / 570 / 571 / 577 / 580, ABSA Welding Examiner, CSA 178.2 Level II / III, ABSA Grade B Pressure Welder.
  • Minimum 5 years of industry experience. Previous teaching experience is an asset, but not required.
  • Strong knowledge of welding and related technology, as well as the application of Codes and Standards.
  • Aptitude for mentoring and coaching others.
  • Comfortable with public speaking, and able to convey course subjects to diverse students and learning styles.
  • Possess a positive, respectful attitude, and a high commitment to student success and collaboration.
  • Basic level proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 kg, and safely perform some manual work.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Vacation for Instructors

Looking for a work-life balance?  Instructors at SAIT earn 43 days of paid vacation per year (approximately 8 weeks per year).  In addition, employees at SAIT also receive paid time off during the break between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
